Tips for Starting An eBay Home Based Business
Because eBay membership is free of charge and because making money from eBay is not only easy but also fun, starting a home business through eBay makes perfect sense to many.
I know of no one who has not heard of eBay. Anyone with a computer more than likely has browsed eBay at one time or another. While most of these same individuals will remain “eBay browsers” many more will proceed to try and sell something on eBay.
Although easy to do and of course free there are still some things you need to know to become successful. Here are some suggestions that have proven to be helpful when selling on eBay.
1.You will need a way for buyers to pay for your goods. A PayPal account is the safest and most widely known form of payment on auctions sites. Ebay only accepts PayPal as a payment for either selling or buying so that is one of the first things you should have in order to sell on eBay.
2.Now that you have your payment method set up, are you a member of the eBay community? If not then you will need to sign up for an account. It is quick and easy and involves filling out a simple online form.
3.After your account has been confirmed and you have signed in to your account be sure and read the eBay rules thoroughly. Take as much time as you need to make sure you understand their rules regarding sellers and their merchandise. Familiarizing yourself with the eBay rules now will save you time and money later should something unseen happen. It has happened that someone has not thoroughly understood the rules and eBay has cancelled the sellers’ membership without their knowledge. So read those rules thoroughly.
4.Customers Service-Like any store whether offline or online people will come to your store if you have a good reputation. A poor service record will reflect on your business and you will lose sales and customers. That is why eBay has established a quality score on each seller’s site for customer feedback. Buyers look at this score when they go to your eBay site, if it is not good they will move one to the next store. So answer your customers questions in a timely manner, make sure the merchandise is delivered in good shape, and that your ad reflects the condition of the merchandise. You want satisfied customers!
5.Now that you are ready to start your first auction and you have your merchandise all lined up make sure you put it in the correct listing on eBay. For instance, if you are selling shoes, you wouldn’t want to put that in Books. Some categories will overlap, pick the one that fits closest to your item and list it there. A good clear picture of the item is always a good idea when listing a product as well as a clear, concise description of the item.

Starting an eBay Business With Unwanted Household Items
Many people start out an eBay home business by using unwanted items around their home. It is in fact and excellent to get your feet wet in eBay. After the entire inventory is already there and paid for, the only thing you have to worry about is the shipping of the item once PayPal has cleared the money from the buyer.
But if you want to make this a continuing source of income you will soon run out of unwanted items, unless you do plan to sell the kitchen sink.
How to get started on eBay…Just the basics:
In addition to items you want to list you will obviously need a computer with an Internet connection, a good digital camera so that you can take quality pictures of the items you are selling, and a PayPal account for accepting payments, depending on the item you are selling you will need packaging material (which can usually be purchased at your local UPS store or Postal Annex here in the USA), and of course some starting capital to send your first few items once they sell.
Even though you are receiving money from PayPal for your items you will still need some starting capital in order to get the goods out immediately once the payment is in your account. Customers do not want to wait for the funds from PayPal to be transferred into your account which can take up to 5 business days depending on your banks routine.
What I have done is applied for a PayPal debit card with a pin number, that way I can access the funds immediately upon receipt of them. It does save time.
How to keep a steady flow of items to sell on eBay:
Obviously if you rely only on what is in your house you will run out of items to sell. So you need to find a good source for items for your eBay store. I have a friend who sells antiques on eBay, she finds most of what she sells at garage and yard sales, online auctions including eBay, flea markets. She only purchases items that are easy for her to transport and store. She started by limiting herself to only figurines and snuff boxes, but soon found that avenue dried up in her area so she branched out to other small antiques. She now sells old matchbox cars, trucks, railroad cars, snuffboxes, antique toys, some figurines and various other articles. She and her husband who is retired spend the weekend hunting up bargains and then selling them on eBay thereby supplementing their retirement income. You will be surprised where you will find the items for you to sell, you just have to keep your eyes and ears open and then follow through.
She has developed a wide knowledge of the items she sells. She knows the background on many of the items and how to price them. She learned most of this through years of collecting antiques herself and through research both online and off. She focused on what she knew to start and branched out from there as she gained more knowledge.
What I am trying to get at is that you need to know your merchandise if you are going to go this route to replenish your stock for sale.
Don’t have the space to store the items?
That can be a problem if you want to sell large items also the shipping can be problematic. I suggest you look for small items that can be stored in a basement, closet, garage or an empty room in your home. Depending what it is you are focusing on to sell and how big it is will determine how much space you will need.
There is another option for selling items on eBay:
If you do not want to hunt up items for yourself for whatever reason there are always dropshipping companies. A dropshipping company will provide all the items can handle to sell online. All you have to do is list them on eBay, collect the money, and pay the dropshipping their cost and they will send it out fast and efficiently. You don’t have to worry about a thing, just collect the money. The company will give you the wholesale price you have to pay, you post it at what you want to sell it for, and keep the difference.
Becoming an eBay seller is one of the easiest home business opportunities to get started with. EBay is extremely popular auction site, people go there first usually to look for bargains, why shouldn’t they buy from you?

Starting A Home Sewing Business
For those individuals who want to work from home, finding paid home employment is not always easy to find. That is why so many are choosing to start their own home business. One excellent way of making money from home, providing you are good at sewing, is to start your own sewing business. Everything from tailoring, embroidery, knitting, crocheting, specialty items all can be a foundation for a profitable and fun home based business.
At one time home sewing was done on big, noisy industrial machines and the person doing the sewing was paid on a per piece basis. Now this type of work at home jobs are less common because companies are shipping this type of work overseas and having it done for less money.
When I think of sewing as a home based business the first items that come to mind are wedding dresses. Brides want the most unique and one of a kind wedding dress for their special day, added to that one of a kind bridesmaid dresses. If you have the expertise for this type of dressmaking, put it to use as your home based business.
If you feel you cannot make wedding dresses then another way to make money with your sewing would be to provide a service to local dry cleaners for garment repair and alterations. It is a sad commentary on todays society that we throw away items that can be repaired. But there are still those of us around who would rather put in a new zipper or repair a hem of a perfectly good garment than throw it away. Check with your local dry cleaner to see if this is a service that you can provide for them.
Those of us who can’t sew far outweigh those who can; it is the nature of today’s society, thirty, even forty years ago that would not have been the case. People are too busy today to think about making something from hand for the home or personal use. This is why making one of a kind slipcover, bedspreads, and window dressings would make a very profitable home business for the right person. For instance, I have a beautiful sewing machine that I rarely use simply because I do not enjoy sewing. My husband bought me the machine thinking that I would enjoy it. It is still beyond me why he thought I would, but there you have it. I can sew simple repairs, but making a simple valance for the window is more than I can handle. I don’t enjoy sewing and not ashamed to ask someone who does to do these tasks for me. It takes a special person who not only can do the work, but also enjoys it.
Several years ago a friend earned extra money by making stuffed animals and small stuffed toys. She sold them at various craft fairs, to those who were in need of a gift. She has a nice cottage industry going to supplement her retirement. I bought a hound dog for each of my four children from her years ago as Christmas gifts, the kids still have them as adults and are handing them down to their children. They are one of a kind heirlooms.
If you already sew then you more than likely have all the equipment you will need to start a small home based sewing business. Think about what kind of sewing you can do in the space you have, how you will get the word out that you do sewing in your home, where you would store your supplies; think it through and I am sure you can come up with lots of ideas on how to start your own home based sewing business. Aside from the necessary tools and accessories, your initial expenses will be for materials and advertising. Be sure and always ask for a small deposit when taking an order. It is also a good idea to have a small sample of your work available to show clients.
Depending on which avenue you intend to take with your new home-based sewing business will determine where and how to advertise. For instance, if you are making wedding dresses introduce yourself to local florist or wedding planner. Advertise with circulars, in local newspapers, on bulletin boards, in church papers, anywhere you can to get your name and service in the minds of your clients. Once you have satisfied customers they will help spread the word and your business will build.
Working At Home With A Residual Income
Generating a work at home residual income is the most profitable of all home business plans. With any Internet Marketing program you want a good return on your investment. Programs that offer residual income (income is a rent received on a regular basis, with little effort required to maintain it) are the ideal way for you to use your working hours. You do the work once, but income is generated for a long period of time.
A residual income business plan is not limited to a return on investment with only one sale; rather it is a returning income. Make the sale once and the income returns again and again. Over time it will generally increase as well.
If you are thinking of staying at your J.O.B. then this is the ideal home business for you. A residual income business can be done part-time very easily.
The secret to having a successful work from home residual income is to build multiple streams of income from a variety of sources. Success with Internet marketing comes from having several programs that pay you on a recurring basis generated off only ONE sale. Promoting Membership sites is one way to do this. Membership sites are where the largest and most lucrative residual income occurs.
A good work from home residual income business earns you money while you sleep. It’s also one where all you need is to advertise an opportunity…not a product. It does not engage in selling, presentations, or worse…the dreaded cold calling. Just advertise a given opportunity, and let only those interested individuals pay for more info.
The quickest way to build a work from home residual income is by following the duplication of your upline. After all they have already worked out the kinks in the systems and are making money. You don’t need to find your own system, with a good residual program it is already worked out for you. All you need to do is present the opportunity, and let people decide for themselves. It is all about advertising one time and getting paid many, many times over for it.
