Making Money On eBay

Anyone can make money on eBay it is that easy. Selling items on eBay can be a very profitable business enterprise. If you are serious about a home business then you should seriously consider eBay as a source of online income. Are you curious on how it is done?

I am sure you have considered at one time or another selling unwanted items on eBay, but not sure how to get started. Basically eBay is an online garage sale. Anything and everything is sold on eBay. Selling unwanted items laying around your home is a good place for you to start making money on eBay.

In order to succeed with a home business on eBay one of the most important items is a good online reputation. Each eBay buyer is asked to rate transactions from individual business owners. Various aspects of the buying experience are rated such as: are the goods received what was described on the site, was the price accurate, did the business owner communicate with you, the overall experience of purchasing an item from the owner and would you do it again.

By eBay asking these questions and the buyers giving responses in a positive light your business will grow by reputation alone.

Selling unwanted items will mean you won’t need a budget for additional merchandise before you start to make a profit. You will receive full asking price for the items (including any shipping costs) before the item is sent to the buyer. Remember, postage costs are included in the price of the item.

Now that you have collected your unwanted items from around your home you need to do three things with the items before putting them for sale on eBay.

1. Take some good clear pictures of the items you are putting up for sale
2. Research similar items on eBay and make sure you don’t overprice your items
3. Calculate shipping costs so they can be added into the selling price of the item

This “practice” selling will give you an opportunity to practice writing precise descriptions of the item, pricing, and how shipping is handled.

This is just a start of your eBay business. Once you are familiar with all aspects of eBay you can then look for and sell items from various drop shipping companies and other online stores.

People from all walks of life are making money online using eBay. I personally know people who have made selling items on eBay their main source of income.

Is Your Hobby A Work At Home Business?

Do you enjoy a hobby?  I know I do.  I have several hobbies: reading, different types of crafts, cooking, fishing, and walking just to name a few.   Several years ago I started working online as a “hobby” and after about a year I still wasn’t making any money and couldn’t figure out why.

Some people told me the reason I didn’t make any money is because I did treat my “business” as a “hobby”, and as we all know hobbies are for fun not to be taken seriously.  I don’t know how you feel about your hobby but I consider mine serious.   I am very serious about fishing, reading, walking, and cooking, most especially cooking.

The main reason I got into working from home was because I was bored with working for someone else.  I got tired of getting up every morning and rushing to get to work.  I got tired of the commute and the traffic.   Plus the company I worked for downsized and I became a statistic.   I never really like statistics and hated being one even more; but I like working.   I liked figuring out how to do things to make a profit, I like marketing products, and thanks to my previous employer have a sound knowledge of basic computer skills, except emails, for some reason they didn’t make sense, I had put up a mental block there for some reason.

But I digress…Just because you have a hobby you enjoy doesn’t mean you can’t turn it into a work at home business.  The same goes if the concept of working at home is appealing but you are not sure where to start and what is a scam and what is not.

You should enjoy what you are doing; otherwise it becomes a 9-5 J.O.B.   You already have a 9-5 J.O.B why would you want another one once you get home?

Working at home should be a way for you to make money from home while doing something you enjoy. That is not to say that you shouldn’t take into consideration how you are going to make this new “hobby” profitable.  After all “hobbies” can be expensive.  So although working at home is satisfying as any other “hobby” it needs to be taken a little more seriously than your everyday hobby.

Then comes the question as to whether or not you need a website.  Depending on the business I would have to say “yes”; however, if you are truly going to turn your ‘hobby” into a business, then consider putting your crafts on sites like Etsy.  Although I personally have never done this, my daughter does and I don’t believe it costs anything to sign up.   Just do your research first.

Digressing again…when you start a work at home business no matter what type, you need to consider all the costs involved.   Are there any monthly fees?  If the company has a product do you have to purchase a certain amount of products and then store them? What about advertising the products and services?  How much are you willing to spend per month on advertising because I will honestly tell you that free advertising is only one way of advertising your new business venture.  To be really successful you have to be able to set up a monthly advertising budget and stick to it.

Working at home while some do consider it a “hobby” is hard work for the beginner.  There is a lot of reading and learning.   Like any business it takes time to grow and become profitable, what makes it worthwhile for me anyway is that it is fun and I have no one but myself to congratulate when things go well and no one but myself to blame when things go wrong.

I am constantly learning new techniques, new programs, and new software.  Every day has become an adventure in learning.   When I open my emails in the morning I look forward to seeing how much money I made while I was sleeping, or who has contacted me to ask questions.

For me my work at home business could be considered another “hobby”; one that I have turned into a very profitable one.

As you know there are several opportunities online and probably twice as many “scams”, personally I try to avoid the latter. There is a group of ladies that I have worked with in the past who are great at mentoring “newbies”.  All are successful online marketers who have developed their own “niche” markets.  Take a moment to check them out you won’t be disappointed.

Home Business Failure

While it is true many people from all walks of life and all over the world have succeeded in working online, many more have failed in their attempts. I am one of the lucky ones who have been able to have some reasonable success in a relatively short period of time…7 years. But for the purposes of this article I would like to focus on the most common mistakes people make when starting a home business and how you can avoid them.

When searching for a work at home job or business most people go to their search engine and type in “home business” “make money online” “work at home” or any combination they feel will result in answers for their search. On the first page of the search they usually click on the first couple of offers and if they like the look of the website will click and join the program. They might hesitate a few minutes to decide if they really have the money to send in, but they eventually succumb to the websites content.

This is the first mistake. They never do any research on the company they are sending their money into. They have no idea if this is the type of work at home business they want or can even do. They never ask questions such as: Is there a refund policy? Is there training? Are there any other costs involved? They just jump in the deep end of the lake without a life preserver!

These same individuals have a mindset that the money will start rolling in without their involvement. Now that they have joined a program they can now sit back and let others earn their money for them. Where they go wrong here is this: Like any business it takes effort and time to make money. Bill Gates did not become as rich as he is sitting and letting others do the work for him. Neither can the person who wants to work from home.

Then there are others who think that 1-2 hours a week will be sufficient to bring the money rolling into their hands. In truth, just like any other business, working 1-2 hours a week will get you nowhere. You can, if you are very lucky, start making progress if you devote 3-5 hours a DAY advertising, promoting, and working to get your business off the ground.

People fail in home business in part because they have no idea who they really are and what their goals are. Find out what you really want and how much time and effort you are willing to put into a task to achieve your goals. Write your goals out on a piece of paper; keep it in front of you at all times when you are working. Write down what you have to do in order to achieve your goals. Over time these goals will change and develop, but the basic goal of wanting a better life will stay the same.

Another item for failure is reinventing the wheel. I hope you know what this means; I am sure you do. When you join a legitimate home based program do not try to do things they way you think they should work. If the owner of the program is successful already and is willing to show you how to do it like they did, why would you want to do it differently? It is called “duplication”. It works for a reason. It has been tried and refined so that the next person to join has the advantage of years of learning and knowledge from their uplines. Don’t change the wheel!

Simple advice and common sense really for those of you who want to start a home based business. Investigate the programs before signing up, see what others have to say, if they are successful. Any program on the Internet, no matter how legitimate will have some negative comments. People who have failed at a program will say a negative comment, which is human nature. But read and decide for yourself before you join. Do Not Jump Into The Lake unprotected!

Home Business and the Economic Turndown

The economic downturn in the world has affected not only brick and mortar businesses but also home businesses. Those of us who do work at home are also feeling the effects of this downturn. Face it people don’t have money. If you don’t have money for food and shelter for the family, you certainly do not have money to spend on the Internet or a home business. Living is your first priority.

The difference is with a brick and mortar business you have a lot of overhead; employees, building maintenance, health care, business taxes, and lot of little items that have to be taken care of to be profitable.

Whereas with a home business you have no building maintenance, no employees, none of the healthcare costs for those employees. You have heard it before…YOU ARE THE BOSS…you have only yourself to report to. Responsibility is to you and you alone.

I can even begin to describe the feeling of relief I had when I started working from home. At my old J.O.B. I had stress attacks at least once a week, I was tired all the time, I hated going to work. One hour to work and an hour home 5 days a week sometimes 6. Then like so many others was laid off due to cutbacks. I really thought for a while my world had ended and we would lose everything. About a week after losing my job I turned on the Internet and started browsing. That is when the idea came to me that I could work at home doing what I love.

So I learned to make a website, found companies to promote, and started advertising. At first it cost me nothing more than the cost of the Internet connection. It took some time but the feeling of elation and accomplishment at the first sale is something that cannot be explained. It was a thrill for me to know that with a little effort and a lot of time, I made money without spending any. Not much mind you but enough to get a regular hosting account for my website (I arranged to pay it monthly). I made a promise to myself that I would not continue working online if this business did not pay for itself on a monthly basis. I have kept that promise.

I never worked online before or owned a business, I was an Office Manager, who knew a little of this and very little of that. But I took what I knew and built a home business.

Even in these economic conditions you can make your dreams into a reality. You have to decide how bad you want it, how much you are willing to work for it. Only you know what you are willing to do…because I will tell from experience you can do anything you set your mind to. Whether it is working online as an affiliate marketer, working for an online company such as Moms Exec (which promotes Metaluca and other health supplements), or you want to do freelance work, the sky is the limit with your own home based business.

Working at home is a great way to supplement your current income and when this income surpasses your J.O.B. then you will have a real easy decision to make.
