What You Can Expect From An Online Business
Eight years ago I decided to start an online business, never knowing what that would entail. I truly believed the hype of a business running 24/7 by itself. How utterly naive I was.
Essentially an online business does run by itself, once it is set up. However, an online business is constantly changing. New challenges await the unwary behind every website. Not only does it keep changing and challenging you the business owner, but as your business evolves so do the challenges. How you adapt to these challenges and changes will determine whether your online business will succeed.
From my personal experience, once you decide on the home based business you want to involve yourself in, allow at least three months to learn new strategies, for some a new language (computer speak), and to improve the multitude of new things you will be learning to enable you to run your home business. Have patience these first three to six months as they will be over in a blink of an eye; you need this learning curve to succeed. You need to know what you are doing and how you are doing it to start to grasp the concept of your running a home based business, and not chasing the dream of owning one.
Throughout the first year you will be learning every day, but within six months you should start seeing some award for your work in the form of cash! After months of trying and seeing little or no results that first big sale is like manna from heaven. It usually happens around the six month mark, but there are no guarantees in online business, to some extent it is sheer luck and perseverance. For me it was people telling me I could not make a living online. Something about being told I cannot do something has always struck a nerve with me.
If you have reached this turning point you will know that you have chosen the right home business for you.
This is also the time when you think you can sit back and reap the rewards. Not So!
You have started building the business, now you have to add on. Much like you build a building. You have started the foundation, now move on to the upper floors. You need to take a close look at what you have built, and decide what you are doing that is working and what is not. Get rid of or refine what is not. Continue and refine what is.
I check my website daily, to see where my sales are coming from. If one product is doing better than another, that product gets more exposure. Do the same with advertising. If you use only free advertising as I do, check your sites several times a week to make sure your ads are getting the exposure you need them to get, if they are not getting any hits, rewrite them. I am constantly looking for new and legitimate work at home opportunities. Many of the opportunities I try out first before I put them on my website to make sure they are what they say they are, if it is something I cannot check out I enlist the aid of a trusted group of people who check the offers out first. There are a lot of scam artists out on cyberspace, unfortunately.
Owning your own home business is a continuing learning experience. It really never ends. Look into automation and programs that will help you improve your home based business. The business forums on the Internet are a good source for this type of information. As your profits increase the excitement of that first sale remains, but remember why you wanted a home based business. You need to take some of the profit and put it back into your business either in the form of better advertising, better software, whatever you need to make your business run smoother and faster.
Your online business will give you the freedom and flexibility to enjoy life. Once you succeed in automating your business, you will be able to choose when you want to work and when you want to play.
Within the first year you will have set up a daily schedule which will give you a routine to your working days, while still maintaining the flexibility you longed for when starting. You won’t be rich yet, but you will be your own boss. At the end of the first year you have made it past the ups and downs of owning your own business, you should be seeing a profit, and you are on track for where you want to be.
Most online marketers who are within their first five years are still working for someone else, but they, unlike their counterparts, see the end in sight. They know that they are where they want to be, and within a short period of time, they will be working only for themselves.
Working At Home Doesn’t Have To Be Online
Trying to find the right work at home business for yourself can be very hard. The selection of work at home businesses is growing daily and choosing the right one for you can be overwhelming.
But it doesn’t have to be. If you are still undecided about what you want to do with a work at home business, then make a list. Write down what it is you like to do, what are your skills, how much money do you have to invest if any, will you need any equipment.
If what I do (Affiliate Marketing) doesn’t appeal to you, then there are other options. For instance, I have a friend who loves dogs and they seem to love her, she walks her own dog daily through all sorts of weather. She wanted to work from home but doesn’t feel she has the skills to work online, so she started a dog sitting service. She will take your dog into her home on a daily basis to “babysit” them. She feeds them takes them for walks and spoils them shamelessly. She charges between $200-$350 a week for a dog. It depends on the size of the dog (she does limit it to 30 pounds), how many days a week she will have it, and how many hours.
She is able to do this because she has no small children at home during the day. She makes between $500-$700 a week, the owners do not have to worry about their dogs when they are at work. She only works during the week and on her terms. She provides a service that would otherwise not be there.
I have another friend who is a trained hairstylist, but got let go because she could not work long hours because of her children. She has developed a clientele of 10-15 women who are willing to come to her home to get their hair cut, colored, permed. She charges less then the salons and provides the same service. Including if you need your nails done, her sister will come in and do those for you. She works out of her basement, which has a private entrance, and earns between $100-$300 a week depending on the need.
Still another who is a chauffeur for seniors who need to get to Doctor appointments or shopping. She has a van and is able to transport mobile seniors in her van. She cannot take wheelchair bound people and there are restrictions and insurance overhead, so look into this carefully and be sure you understand all the regulations by the state and your insurance company before proceeding.
If you use your imagination you can find a work at home opportunity in your own neighborhood. Working online is not for everyone. But that doesn’t mean you can’t work from home.

It Takes Money To Make Money
It takes money to make money. How many times have you heard that saying as you have put your website together? Although having money can’t hurt, with the versatility Internet offers there are numerous ways you could find that could help you optimize the potential of your site or business in generating traffic.
While there are ways to fast start your traffic surge, many sites don’t have the wherewithal that others have to produce more traffic for your site. Don’t get discouraged, you don’t have to spend one red cent; all you need is
the proper attitude and a lot of enthusiasm. You also must have the willpower and determination to do hard work and research to produce more traffic for your site.
Speaking from experience it is a wonderful feeling to have more traffic for your site without spending a single cent. The Internet is full of article sites that offer tips and procedures in how to produce traffic using only free methods. Because it is possible, you don’t need to spend a single cent, it will take longer for you to get established. You get better chances by paying for your advertisements, but if you use some of the free methods I will tell you about at least you have a chance of success.
I have said it before and I will say it again: take advantage of online forums and online communities. The thing to remember about forums and online communities is that you have target group that fits the your demographic.
You can discuss with others the nuances of online marketing while at the same time recruiting new members to your program. Remember on most forums and online communities you are not allowed to post ads. Only take
part in discussions or ask questions. Always remember to put your name and website address into the signature. This way no matter what you are talking about, you web address is there for everyone to see.
This type of advertising is not only free but a great way for you to build a reputation for your company. This is your time to show others who you are and knock them out with your range of knowledge about the subject, and
with this you build a good reputation and trust with the others on the forums and communities.
You can also make use of newsletters. This is one area that is largely overlooked by the new Internet marketer. Provide people with a directory of your products through a series of interesting articles. If you make it really
interesting and entertaining, more people will sign up for your newsletter and recommend it to other people. The more people who signs up for your newsletter, the more people there will be that will go to your site
increasing your traffic.
The more links and people coming to your site, the higher your ranking in the search engines. One way to achieve this is through exchanging links. This can be done through free online link exchanges or by asking others in the
forums if they would like to exchange links. All you have to do is reach an agreement with another webmaster. With exchanging links, the efforts both sites do will benefit both sites. Every traffic that goes to the site could
potentially click on the link of your site and visit your site as well. This works well especially when both sites feature the same niche.
Writing articles is probably on of the hardest for most people to do, but it is an excellent way of free advertising for your site. Articles that provide good assistance and knowledge to other people will provide the necessary
traffic your website needs. Many sites offer free submission and posting of your articles. When people find interest in your articles they have a good chance of following the track by finding out where the article originated.
Include a link or a brief description of your company with the article and there’s a great probability that they will go to your site.
Write good content for your site. Many search engines track down the keywords and keyword phrases your site uses and how they are used. It is not a requirement that content should be done by a professional content writer. You could do your own but you have to make content for your site that is entertaining as well as informational. It should provide certain requirements as well as great quality. Generally, Internet users use search engines to find what they are looking for. Search engines in return use keyword searching in aiding their search results. With the right keywords, you could get high rankings in search engine results without the costs.
All of these methods and more will drive more traffic to your site for free. All it takes is a bit of effort and hard work. Learn all you can about the methods depicted here and you will soon have a site with a steady traffic flow without
the usual costs that come with it.
